For instance, if you find some issues in your sewing machine then maybe; it’s time to change the needle. The following might be the reasons. If the needle is broken or bent then it’s time to replace it with a new, right-sized needle.
- Singer suggests changing the needle according to fabric type and quantity of thread.
- If the thread in your sewing machine is constantly breaking while working then it’s a sign that you need to change the needle.
- It’s good to change the needle every day in a heavy-duty singer’s sewing machine.
- Most professionals prefer changing needles regularly or in the case of manual machines, at least once or twice a week.

How to change a needle in a singer’s sewing machine?
Almost all the categories in Singer’s sewing machine propose the same procedure to change the needle in their manual booklets. But the only minute difference can depend on the needle screw. In some categories of singers, the screw can be loosened by hand and others require screwdrivers. But always remember, Just lose the screw near the needle and not remove it completely while changing the needle.
Here are the steps to change the needle in the singer’s sewing machine:
Turn off plug
- Considering the safety measures as a priority, first turn off the main switch by holding it from the plug and not from the wire.
- Singer recommends in its manual to switch off “0” the sewing machine prior to making any adjustments or changes in the needle area or threading area or even during changing the needle.
How to remove the old needle?
- To remove the previous needle, begin by raising the needle bar to the highest possible. Just make sure to keep the handle wheel counter-clockwise which means in your direction.
- Now look for a small screw near the right side of the needle. Loose the screw clamp gradually but don’t remove it completely. You can loosen it with the help of a hand or a flat-edged screwdriver depending on the model you are using and the screw clamp’s size. You just have to twist the screw in a counter-clockwise direction to loosen it.
- Now remove the needle gently by holding it and pulling it downwards.
How to insert a new needle?
- Before inserting a new needle, check out the new needle is straight. You can assess it by laying the needle on a flat surface. If the needle is straight and pointed then it’s good to go.
- Adjust the new needle in the needle clamp by keeping the flat side of the needle towards the back.
- After insertion, push the needle as far as it can go in the needle clamp and fix it by tightening it. Keep in mind not to over-tighten the needle. As over-tightening can break or bend the needle right there.
- Or you can tighten the screw with a little flat-edged screwdriver.

It clearly shows where the flat side of the needle will go. And it helps avoid any mishap to your hands. If you fret about changing the needle then surely this accessory is a gift to you.
